History

San Vicente, Mexico, is a small town Rainier View Christian Church (formally Parkland) has been visiting since 1995. It is a small community 150 miles south of the Mexican-American boarder on the Baja peninsula.

We have been informally working with the Casa del Pastor, a small battered woman's ministry run out of the home of Jeanie Sue, the local missionary.

Currently, the home has about 6 mothers along with 50+ kids in a tiny 2-story house. Jeanie has an amazing ministry for the woman in the town as she builds meaningful relationships with the woman there. When the woman enter the program, they are given food, water and shelter. The woman and children are also given an education as they must be willing and actively taking steps to build their independence- all through Christ-centered programs.

I have seen the little house grow and transform over the years, both in scale and in effectiveness. I truly believe that God has used this ministry to make a true, tangible difference in the many woman and children's lives within this Casa.

Now, our church is focusing on the needs of the town of San Vicente as a whole. We have partnered with Pastor Kiki of the local church to bring his visions into fruition. Over the past 2 years we have constructed a drug rehab center for the men of the town. It has been truly amazing to see how things fall into place when we learn to trust the Lord.

Through perseverance and prayer, Kiki has purchased a plot of land in the hills on the outskirts of town. Ed McPherson from our church shares Kiki's vision of a place for men to go for recovery. Through these two men, we have constructed a 2 story building in just 5 short weeks (over 2 Summers).

Through this, it is amazing to see that God can use even those things that are incomplete- last year, after we out the roof in the building 3 men had already begun treatment! It just proves that everything is to be done in God's time and not our own.

So here we are again.... 4 days out from our trip South of the border. Please pray that God will keep us safe in our travels, humble in our actions, and loving in our words.
